Archangel's Blade

Archangel's Blade - Nalini Singh Originally posted at WickedLilPixie Reviews
This is what I’m talking about!! After the disappointment I felt over the last book in the series, this knocked my fuzzy socks off. This is Paranormal Romance at its best, seriously you guys. Archangel’s Blade is the fourth book in Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series and a break from the first three in that it is Dmitri’s story, departing from Elena and Raphael for a change (though of course they’re in it!).

Dmitri is Raphael’s, the archangel of New York, second. Raphael’s Seven comprise the angels and vampires who pledged their lives to the archangel, led by Dmitri. He is, naturally, the “archangel’s blade”. Vampires are Made by archangels, a hundred years of service to the angels in exchange for the gift of near-immortality. NYC is not only home to Rafael the archangel, but also a powerful Guild of hunters dedicated to retrieving those who decided to run from their service contracts. Honor is one of those hunters, but she is also the recent survivor of a most awfully humiliating and painful trauma that has left her broken. Dmitri has been alive almost a thousand years old, and appears to live for for the pleasure of blood and pain, every other sensation having grown dull. The two could not be from more different worlds and yet the minute Honor steps in to Dmitri’s office, hold on to your underpants, it is so hot the sparks are jumping off the pages. I am fanning myself just remembering.Whew!

I am usually not a fan of soul reincarnation-themed love stories, but I really don’t see any other way it could have worked out for Dmitri’s HEA. He was just too damaged, too tormented and too angry, that the way Ms. Singh intertwined Honor and Dmitri’s story really worked for me. Chapter 30. That is all I have to say. Chapter freaking 30.While I sit down to write this review, the only thing I can really find myself saying is “Dmitri is hot”, “Did I mention how hot Dmitri is?”, “Seriously, this book is so hot.” But it’s also a great love conquers all story, too. And don’t go judging him by the cover you see up above, that looks kind of like a buff Kevin Nealon… Here I go for the 345th time: Dmitri is hot.

I enjoyed the darkness of the story, and even the brutality of the story made sense and worked for me. Nalini Singh hit a home run with Dmitri’s story and it met all my high expectations. I do not recommend reading this stand-alone. In order to get the full effect of this story, I recommend reading this order in series. It is important to have some familiarity of the characters, particularly Dmitri, to get the full oomph of this one. Do it now!
