ebooks are my thang

I used to read and review books. Now I just read for fun :)

Night Film: A Novel

Night Film: A Novel - Marisha Pessl One word: Meh.

Revenant

Revenant - Larissa Ione I can't believe the storyline is done!!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so much!

Riding Dirty

Riding Dirty - Jill Sorenson My first book by this author and I devoured it!! Very much looking forward to more books.

Heat

Heat - R. Lee Smith Whewwwwwwwboy. This book is definitely not for everyone. It follows two aliens who come to earth. One, Kane, who has escaped from prison and one, Tagen, who is following him to bring him back. Kane is basically Evil incarnate, and his entire storyline is one GIANT trigger warning. Seriously. I found myself not being able to put the book down mostly because I just couldn't imagine how much more depraved Kane could be. Pages and pages and pages of Kane being the most awful horrific villain I have ever witnessed, and I was shamefully hooked. I had originally started this book last year after reading and LOVING [b:The Last Hour of Gann|18589656|The Last Hour of Gann|R. Lee Smith|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1380286253s/18589656.jpg|26331984], and thought at around 19% it was not for me. But something prompted me to pick it up now, a year later, and I could not put it down. To say this book is dark is an understatement. IT IS DARRRRRK. Violent. Hard to watch at many, heck, most, times. And yet I couldn't put it down. And the best part? I LOVED HOW IT ENDED. The ending, after this ridiculously fucked up story, was perfection.

Seventh Grave and No Body

Seventh Grave and No Body - Darynda Jones I still love this series. It makes me giggle repeatedly. Buttttttttttt this book and the last were VERY PREDICTABLE. To the point that I want to shout at the book in frustration. That is seriously detracting from the enjoyment.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust - Skye Warren Whewwwwwboy, this was dark and messed up. And I can't believe I enjoyed it as much as I did, but I couldn't put it down. Will definitely check out more by this author.

Prisoner

Prisoner - Annika Martin, Skye Warren YASSSSSS. Thoroughly enjoyed this DELICIOUS novel and am dying for more!!!! Give us more!

Nothing Bad is Going to Happen

Nothing Bad is Going to Happen - Kathleen Hale This author publicly flaunted that she stalked a 1-star reviewer, and *showed up at her house*. Stay away from this book, because who knows what will happen if you don't like it.

Lovely Wild

Lovely Wild - Megan Hart No spoilers here.
Wow. What a roller coaster this book is.

I didn't read the blurb, I just went forth knowing I was reading a Megan Hart, and shortly in to it I was like "Wait. Is this a noir mystery? I assumed this was a Romance but I don't see any romance hero material going on here." A little bit later I was like "I'm thoroughly freaked out right now, is this a Horror novel? What is this book???" I had absolutely no idea what to expect, and I loved it.

I was whisked away by the story of Mari, her kids, and her husband. And thoroughly creeped out. I stayed up waaayyyy too late after starting this and honestly got super scared a few times in the middle of the book.
I immediately felt a connection with the heroine Mari, and this dark sense of dread filled the pages for the majority of the story, that something terrible is going to happen to her. We get narration from Mari, her husband Ryan and her daughter Kendra. The sense that the narration from Mari and Ryan is unreliable really added to the overall feeling that something scary or bad is going to happen. The story that unfolds??? Off the rails. I guess all this boils down to me saying I LOVED this book!

Take a chance on this book. You will be thoroughly creeped out, and it will leave you thinking long after you are done.

Prince of Thorns

Prince of Thorns - Mark Lawrence, James Clamp I took a chance on this one, I'm not usually a fan of straight up Fantasy. And particularly one that is centered around a male protagonist who at first is incredibly unlikeable. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and narration and it hooked me on my daily commute. I'll definitely listen to the rest of the series. I DO see what had some folks up in arms over with the main character and his behavior towards women. Didn't bother me tho.

Deacon

Deacon - Kristen Ashley Meh. More of the same. DAMN I really wanted a fresh new KA I could glom. Better luck next time. They can't all be KNIGHT or CREED.

The Understatement of the Year

The Understatement of the Year - Sarina Bowen This book was it for me, with this series. My absolute favorite. Maybe one of my favorite romances of the year. I don't care that it's a genre I am not a fan of (New Adult), it doesn't matter. It was a second chance at love and the author handled some serious issues surrounding real gripping legitimate fear, and how one might handle being out, or staying hidden. I was really moved. I loved the story from the minute we are first introduced to the h/h and I couldn't put it down. For me, this is the ultimate romance story. MORE PLEASE!

Doctor Sleep

Doctor Sleep - Stephen King Mehhhhh

Worth the Fall

Worth the Fall - Claudia Connor Just OK.
